This garden I tried something new per no till method. The idea is great for the long haul, but for this season it’s pretty much of a bust.
Last spring two loads of compost were tilled into the soil so that the plant roots had something to feed on. This time all the compost is on top with nothing for the roots. Over a period of two, maybe three years this would work as the top soil is built up, but none of the top layer has reached more than an inch into the ground. So, in the fall, back to tilling with two loads of compost.
